Expository Writing- Ski Resorts

The chill is everywhere around you — even in the air you breathe. A blanket of white surrounds you as you fly down the slope. Skiing is awesome!

As a start there’s the mountain itself: with all its immaculate glory and mystery. There’s the slopes, the ski lifts, and the beautiful view from the top. As you ski down the slopes, as you ride up the ski lifts, it’s all too much to take in. The mountain always has small unexplored areas to check out. Once I found a mountain lion sleeping in its den! The Mountain is always really cool.

Another thing that’s great about skiing is when you’re tired you can head down to a quaint little village below: The resort! It doesn’t matter how big it is — it still feels like a cozy village. With houses and condos and restaurants and ice skating rinks. All topped with a layer of white. I feel so at home when I sip hot chocolate in the hot tub late at night. The actually resort may be my favorite place!

This may sound weird but one if my other favorite things about skiing is the ski lifts! I love when you get picked up by that cold seat and suddenly it’s just you and the mountain. All the loud noises of parents yelling and kids crying fade away and are replaced by peace as the lift carries you away — unless you’re riding with my brothers!

Other people may like the beach or the woods better, but between you and me : I think skiing is the best!

  1. I really liked your intro and the first sentence to the second paragraph. I especially liked the part about the white that surrounds you and the mystery part of the mountain.

  2. I loved how descriptive you were. I have never gone skiing before this makes me to just want to go by a plane ticket and fly to Colorado. It also seems a little dangerous I know I wouldn’t want to meet a sleeping mouton lion !

  3. I can picture it now! Great use of imagery! Every detail is very descriptive and it really sets the tone of what it’s like to be at a ski resort. Enjoyed reading this Nat!
